Deeva Shah represents clients in all facets of commercial litigation with a particular focus on intellectual property, legal malpractice, and contract disputes. In recent cases, she has defended Google at trial in a patent dispute involving AI computing chips, a large law firm in a legal malpractice action stemming from the bankruptcy of a massive Ponzi scheme, and innovative AI companies in copyright disputes.
Deeva is a co-founder of Law Clerks for Workplace Accountability, whose mission is to ensure that the federal judiciary provides a safe workplace environment—free of harassment—for all employees. She has advised state and federal courts on improving the policies and processes governing inappropriate conduct in the workplace, has spoken at multiple conferences, and has represented clients in workplace discrimination cases pro bono. In 2022, she received the Jack Berman Award from California Lawyers Association’s New Lawyers Section in recognition of her efforts to reform the federal judiciary.
Prior to joining Keker, Van Nest & Peters, Deeva served as a judicial law clerk to Judge Raymond Fisher of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and to Judge Stephen V. Wilson of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Deeva earned her law degree from the University of Michigan Law School and a bachelor’s degree in political and social thought from the University of Virginia. Before law school, she served as a trademark legal assistant for Google. She is fluent in Hindi and Gujarati.
Zoho v. Freshworks
We defended SaaS CRM company Freshworks in a trade secret misappropriation lawsuit brought by rival Zoho in the Northern District of California. We successfully narrowed the case with an early motion to dismiss, and, after eighteen months of intensive litigation, negotiated a settlement that cleared the way for Freshworks to become a publicly traded company.

Law360 has reported that Google LLC, represented by Keker, Van Nest & Peters, and Singular Computing LLC have settled a patent lawsuit over computer chip designs that improve efficiency for artificial intelligence and cloud computing. The joint motion to settle the case comes two weeks into a federal jury trial in Massachusetts and as both parties were set to deliver closing arguments. Read more
