KQED politics correspondent Marisa Lagos spoke with partner Cody Harris about the Trump administration’s executive order directing the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security to publish a list of jurisdictions that are not cooperating with its immigration crackdown.
Harris successfully litigated for sanctuary cities during the first Trump administration. He told Marisa that the point of Trump’s list is unclear. “I think a lot of this is politically motivated. It’s a way to point the finger and hope that some cities or counties will just knuckle under and do what he says.”
Harris said the list could ultimately help sanctuary jurisdictions demonstrate a credible fear of losing federal funds and therefore establish standing to sue.
