The Daily Journal has once again included Elliot Peters on its annual list of Top 100 Lawyers in California. Peters is handling a diverse array of litigation this year, with a mix of criminal, intellectual property, and law firm defense cases in state and federal courts.
Over the next nine months, Peters has four trials scheduled. In November, he will defend Sutter Health in a False Claims Act case where the plaintiff claims that the healthcare organization allegedly engaged in fraudulent payments to induce referrals. In January, Peters will be in Manhattan defending a former partner in a major fraud case involving $500 million in improper tax refunds from Denmark’s government.
In March, Peters will represent a popular online commercial real estate marketplace in a copyright and unfair competition lawsuit in Los Angeles, also appealing an antitrust counterclaim. Finally, in May, he may defend a real estate developer accused of bribing Palm Springs’ former mayor, although the trial's status is uncertain.
In addition to these trials, Peters is managing several criminal investigations and malpractice cases. He enjoys the variety, stating, “There’s just tons going on, and it’s all different. And that makes it fun.”
